Loko — J’aurais ta peau

A video for Loko, directed by LordFace in a borrowed white room in Paris on 29 January 2013. A jib arm, a Nikon, three or four lenses and eight people who kept their coats on all day.

One room, one day Une pièce, une journée

29 January 2013. A white-walled space borrowed rather than hired — a wooden floor, a lounge end with shelves and a rug, and a working end with the stands in it. Everyone keeps their coat and their beanie on indoors all day, which tells you what the heating was doing.

29 janvier 2013.

A jib arm on a stand with a small monitor clamped to it, a Nikon, three or four lenses, and about eight people. That is the entire equipment list. Guerrilla in the proper sense — short, because everything on it had to be carried up.

The arm does the work Le bras fait le travail

With one room and one wall there is nothing to cut to, so the movement has to come from the camera. That is what the jib buys: a rise, a fall, a slow arc past a shoulder — enough variation in a single space that the edit has somewhere to go.

The group and the dog Le groupe et le chien

Halfway through, everyone lines up at the lounge end for a portrait and somebody's Jack Russell walks into three consecutive frames. Nobody moves it. It is the most honest thing in the set — this is a room full of friends making something on a cold Tuesday, not a production.

Where it sits Où ça se situe

The track was on the album tracklist Mr. Pinoux was laying out in December 2012 — there are two emails from Loko a fortnight before Christmas, correcting himself on whether it should be j'aurai or j'aurais and settling on the conditional. This shoot comes a month later, and the video for Elle follows at Trocadéro in April. One winter, one record.
